Griot
I put my words in stanza
I put my words in prose.
I write with quill and cartridge pen
And sign contracts with my toes.

Karma
I’ve trodden this earth
Long ago
Not once
Nor twice
But thrice.
The reality-
Both hidden and seen
Of a Sufi’s life.

Eternal
Eons unravel
Beyond space and time
Our bond everlasting
What’s yours is mine.
The Creator bequeathed
Our souls entwined
In Egypt
Lemuria
And this here time.

Aleph
An unspoken bond
Distinguished by innuendo
And braggadocio
Binds me
To the right wing
Of a flying eagle.
With Zion firmly in its sights-
The lamb rolls with the lion
And prophecy runs its course.

Seraphim
The call
Lucid and enthralling
Disrupts a haze
Surplus to the night.
Last chance saloon
A celestine prophetic
Testament to the
Grand architects might.

Anansi
My old friend
The shape shifter
Led many folk astray.
He became an Owl
After nightfall
But remained a jackal
Throughout the days.

Liberty
My room a maze
Of books and art
My lovers and I
Shall never part.
My inner circle bequeaths
A constant fight.
We illuminate
Into the night.

Shaman
Indigo child
Running wild
I’m surprised
You're still breathing.
Indigo child
Colour therapy healed
You were put
On this earth
For a reason.

Machiavelli
In the throes of the Lion
The weak shudder and sleep.
Within the traps of the fox
The victor is often the meek.

Anon.
An ancient inscription
Upon a rock
Withstood the test of time.
Centuries old
Greedy blood runs cold
As mortals covet
Mere shards of the divine.

Maya
Morning dew in the air
Bids me welcome
From a short flight
Into the ecliptic azures
Of my imagination
Where hushed sensations
Tease unmercilessly
And I never seem to land.
Rubbing sleep
Out of my eyes
I focus haphazardly
On a new vision.
Silently praying
Today will be
A marked improvement
On the last.
One dawn
Many more to come.

Obangiji
Basking in the wilderness
Only a laptop and animals
For company
The birds elegantly sing your name.
No trespassers!
No trespassers!
The squirrel runs
Back and forth
Searching for answers.
